Q: What is a ‘Jack of All Trades’ pumpkin? Garry, Birmingham
Pumpkin Jack says: ‘Jack of All Trades’ is a classic pumpkin, producing roundish, bright orange fruit with dark stems. They are part of the ‘Cucurbita’ family and their species is ‘Pepo’. The ‘Jack of All Trades’ is a cultivated species that a beginner gardener can grow. They are perfect for Halloween lanterns and are good for roasting or when used in soups. Q: Do you have some cooking ideas for pumpkins? Brenda, Worcestershire
Pumpkin Jack says: Baked stuffed pumpkin is good, take out the seeds and bake in oven until soft, stuff with mixed apples (chopped), pineapples, walnuts, cinnamon and nutmeg, cover and bake again until the filling is hot. Alternatively make it into soup with new potatoes, garlic, onion and kale with grated parmesan on top. A healthy, hearty soup. If you would like the full recipes or any other ideas let me know.
